Gregory's Mission™

My name is Gregory Hensley. I build stuff.™

Why I build.
I have had people ask me why I have continued my path of innovation when everyone else would have quit. Well, this answer may not satisfy you, yet I don’t know why I have kept going. That just doesn’t feel right. It’s like this. To me, innovation is a marathon. Good segments, bad segments, yet so long as I can, I just keep on running.

There are times when I’d like to quit. Metal fragments from a failed experiment. A destroyed prototype. Thousands of things that just make me hang my head and weep. Each painful. Yet the greatest pain of all would be to quit when I am so close to a solution.

There have been around 10,000 times when I was just sure something was beyond all hope, and once a new day got here, with new light, and a fresh perspective, that things just dropped into place and as if by magic, A NEW INNOVATION is born! The discovery process makes the run worthwhile.

Just like that silly paper tape at a finish line. There isn’t a feeling that describes that tape tearing. Knowing, just knowing, this particular marathon is over. It’s finished. It’s completed. My innovational process feels the same way.

How I started.
I had several influential teachers. Two, from Genoa Area Junior High School, Ralph Blum, and Mrs. Lambright caused me to do something that still affects me to this day. I started in science on Wednesday, 17 November 1976. I know that date specifically as I had spoke with my teachers about science.

I was trying to impress them with how smart I thought I was. I told them about experiments I had performed in the summer of 1976. Each was nice enough to listen, yet they opened my eyes to a fundamental truth. Science, to be science, must be written down.

After I left school, I walked to our local pharmacy and purchased a blank address book. It had what I felt were the right features. Blank lines. My very first entry was “Today, it starts.” That was over 74,000 hours ago.

No, not driven, more like relentless.
I have worked on some things since 1976. I keep on documenting my efforts, and ensuring my accounting is accurate and understandable. People tell me “Gregory, you are very driven.” Well, I disagree. I feel I am relentless. Driven reminds me of an automobile. Someone else has the steering wheel and “drives.” Relentless means that it just keeps going and going and going. That is just like me. I just do not quit.

I will do my best.
Regardless of your and my relationship, you must understand me. I am about the curiosity. I am about the “how” and not the “why.” I do not believe in dumbing myself down for anyone. I believe that anyone I work with, or for, deserve my level best, and that is how I do things. If you don’t want my best, then you don’t want me at all.

Open, Honest, and going to stay that way.
I would love to discuss what I could do for you, yet I will not approach you. If you have interest in me, demonstrate that interest and clearly. I will not waste a minute of your time, yet I will not tolerate your wasting any of my time. I build stuff. Really, really neat stuff. If you care to know more, then may contact me at your leisure.
